1. Summary of work to be allocated into a specific WG
We have been studying the response of crops to water deficits, high-temperature events and the implications for nitrogen use-efficiency, photosynthetic carbon- and light-use, yield and quality parameters. This work could be partly integrated into WG4.
2. Links with other WG and/or Subgroups
Through the collaboration with colleagues from the action, it could be connected with subgroups dealing with relevant signaling/metabolic pathways in WG4.
3. Specific activities to be integrated into WG and/or Subgroups
WG4: The work will cover some aspects of WG4.
4. Qualification for the role and current grants:
Bernd Wollenweber is Senior Scientist at the University of Aarhus, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Genetics and Biotechnology. His research is focused on nutritional physiology, concentrating on the impact of relevant processes controlling nutrient uptake and metabolism for crop quality in light of current environmental constraints such as drought and high-temperature events resulting in abiotic stress responses ultimately affecting crop yield and quality. The work is financed by the Danish Research Councils and the Ministry for Agriculture.
5. Technical expertise and facilities:
The research group has expertise in, and equipment for, crop establishment in field, semi-field and greenhouses, nutrient application, yield potential and quality parameters using sensor utilities and rapid analytical methods. Laboratory facilities and expertise include porometry and chlorophyll fluorescence (imaging), CNS auto analyser, pH-stat system for nutrient solution experiments, determination of relevant enzyme activities, xylem sap collection and analysis including ABA.
