1. Summary of work to be allocated into a specific WG
The partner is involved in biotech approaches for improvement the abiotic stress tolerancein crops. In addition, studies of the mechanisms of desiccation tolerance and recovery in the endemic resurrection plant species Haberlea rhodopensis are performed.The work is mostly integrated into WG2.

The work is also linked with WG3.1, and WG4.5 in order to study interactions with other signaling/metabolic pathways.

4. Qualification for the role and current grants
Dimitar Djilianov is a Senior Researcher, Head of Group at the AgroBioInstitute in Sofia, Bulgaria. He has more than 20 years experience in plant tissue culture and biotech approaches to improve abiotic stress tolerance of plants with special focus on osmo-protectants and anti-oxidative stress mechanisms. The work is funded currently by a National grant.
5. Technical expertise and facilities
This partner will provide all of the experience required for metabolic enzyme activities, and also experience on plant tissue and cell culture and molecular biological techniques, including RT-PCR, gene cloning and characterization of recombinant proteins, plant transformation, etc. The laboratory of AgroBioInstitute kas the equipment and facilities to carry out the work allocated.
