1. Summary of work to be allocated into a specific WG

This partner will study molecular mechanisms of stress signal transduction in plants. The work is mostly integrated into WG1 and WG2.

2. Specific activities to be integrated into WG and/or Subgroups

WG1: The work will focus on the role of Arabidopsis protein phosphatases 2C (PP2C) in regulating stress signal transduction in plants by inactivating MAP kinases.

WG2: cDNA overexpression and RNAi silencing approaches will be used to identify abiotic stress signalling factors involved in cold acclimation in oilseed rape (Brassica napus)

3. Qualification for the role and current grants

Vaiva Kazanaviciute is a scientific researcher at the Institute of Biotechnology (Lithuania), Laboratory of Eukaryote Gene Engineering. She has been interested in plant stress signalling since her PhD. V.K. continuing interest in functional characterization of Arabidopsis PP2C is reflected in her scientific publications.

V.K. work has been currently financed by two national grants from the Lithuanian State Science and Studies Foundation.

4. Technical expertise and facilities

The Laboratory of Eukaryote Gene Engineering (Institute of Biotechnology-IBT) has long-lasting experience in and equipment for standard molecular biology/gene engineering, fluorescence and electron microscopy, plant cell culture. IBT also has plant in vivo and in vitro growth facilities (growth chambers) and experience in maintaining cell culture as well as in comparative phenotypical analysis of Arabidopsis plants.
